So, components and fan installed, I set about my appliques. These come courtesy of
Shattered Web. These guys really are the business: all I had to do was send them over a simple jpeg of the design I wanted, and it was knocked up and sent out in a few days...they have a lot of pre-designed stuff if you want something stock. Included in my pack was an instruction sheet and a little blue credit-card sized piece of plastic for smoothing out air bubbles.
I gave the inside of the window a jolly good clean before applying with some warm water and a little bit of soap.
The applique on the backing paper. The first things you will notice are a) the smell b) the quality. The glue on the appliques has a rather funky smell (which goes after a few mins) but you might want to open a window to avoid the paint fumes syndrome! The quality is undoubted...the backing paper is a classy thick card type material, and the etch itself looks spanking gorgeous in a silvery-type colour.
I peeled off the backing paper and applied the etch carefully.
Bubbles were smoothed out using the credit card and some brute force...
After waiting a while for the glue to hold, I slowly peeled off the back of the applique...
...to be met with this glorious sight. Tell me that that isn't the nicest applique you have ever seen...apart from the fact it is a doddle to apply perfectly, the material quality is top notch and, overall, it really makes the window look 10x as stylish. But I wasn't content there...
Shattered Web also sent us along a custom case sticker. Not for mounting in a window this, but actually applying to the outside of the case. This one, rather than coming in etch-type material, comes in a chrome material that perfectly matches the silver exterior of the 201b.
Applied to the side of the case in the same manner...
Then peeled off. Promptly pick jaw off flaw. There is no way a photograph can do justice to this beauty. I mean, it just...i mean...well....goddamn, it looks so nice!!
You can see the chrome finish to the applique.
If you're after an applique, be it window etch or sticker, check out
Shattered Web right now. Macro has already awarded these guys the coveted Award for Excellence for their work, and I have no hesitation in backing up his recommendation after this fantastic set of designs for us! Absolutely cracking.
